Residents of Agric/Mohiyabihi Electoral Area in the Tamale metropolis have constructed a bridge across the main storm drain behind the Anbariya Islamic Institute to ease vehicular and human movements.
The action became necessary following the inconvenience the absence of the bridge posed to residents of the area. The situation was even worse for owners of cars who were compelled to use alternative routes to and from work.
Explaining the project in an interview with radiotamale.com, the assemblyman of the Agric/Mohiyabihi Electoral Area, Mutala Mohammed said the project, which was abandoned about 12 years ago, was realized through the contribution of individual community members.
He expressed gratitude to individuals who contributed in diverse ways in ensuring that the bridge was successfully completed.
“Fortunately when we sent our message out a lot of people came out to support. Let me say a very big thank you to Alhaji Savana, the iron rods you are looking at were supplied by Alhaji Savana. We also thank Alhaji Engineer who supplied 50 bags of cement. There is another man, Alhassan Adam when he heard the information he gave us 20 bags of cement. We thank him very much. We also appreciate our Member of Parliament, Lawyer Inusah [Fuseini] who gave us 2 trips of chippings.
“A number of people came out to contribute. Some have given us GHC20, GHC50, some have used their skills and others have used their energy. You can see that we still have our men on site working for the community. We are not paying them and we are not giving them anything,” he explained.
He however said some of the materials for the construction of the 7m long bridge were procured on credit and that they are still soliciting funds to offset the debt.
