Tamale Sports Stadium renamed Aliu Mahama Stadium

The Tamale Sports Stadium was, on Sunday December 10 2017, renamed Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in recognition of the contribution the late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama made to the development of sports in the Northern region.

The renaming was done at a colourful ceremony as part of the fifth anniversary celebration of the passing of Alhaji Mahama.

Speaking at the event, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia touted the late veep as a hardworking politician and a sports icon who contributed to the development of sports in the region.

Alhaji Mahama was not just an ardent supporter of Real Tamale United (RTU) but also the bankroller of the club for several years.

He is also said to have played a very significant role in the construction of the sports stadium.

The late Alhaji Mahama served as Ghana’s vice president between 2001 and 2008.
