N/R: Concerned NDC youth cry over ‘unconstitutional’ appointment of branch executives

A group calling itself Concerned Youth of NDC in the Savelugu Constituency has called on both regional and national executives of the party to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the processes leading to the election of branch executives of the party in the constituency.

The group, in a statement copied to radiotamale.com accused the constituency executives of sidestepping the constitution of the party and handpicking their favourite people to appoint as branch executives rather than allow for elections to take place. This, they posit, if not checked, will set the stage for another defeat in the 2020 elections.

“The affairs of the National Democratic Congress NDC in the Savelugu Constituency has reached a point where, some crop of constituency executives have willfully resorted to a path of undemocratic and unconstitutional method in the selection of the ongoing branch level executive elections. …the unpardonable mistakes and self-centeredness of some executives of our party which led to the unexpected defeat of our parliamentary candidate in the 2016 general elections in the constituency is once again manifesting itself in the party at its branch level registration and election process,” the group said.

The group is therefore asking the “leadership of our party to as a matter of agency (sic) and in the best interest of the NDC intervene immediately to restore sanity and allow the constitution of the party to function.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) started the process of electing branch executives on April 14, 2018. The exercise is expected to end on April 30, 2018.

Prior to the commencement of the elections, a directive from the party read in part: “there shall be branch elections conducted by each branch of the party pursuant to Article 14 (2) of the party’s constitution.”

But the concerned youth said “since the start of the branch level elections, not even one branch in the Savelugu Constituency has held a branch meeting to either select or reconfirm anybody as a branch executive as stipulated in Chapter 4 Article 14 (2 and 3).”

“We would conclusively wish to state that we don’t want to witness a repetition of the defeat in 2016 elections. With this, our ultimate aim is to see the NDC once again back to government with Savelugu constituency having in place an NDC elected Member of Parliament to salvage Ghanaians from this super incompetent government of Nana Addo and the NPP come election 2020,” the statement concluded.
