Anas sues Kennedy Agyapong for defamation, demands GHC25m

Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has filed a suit at the Supreme Court against the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for defamation.

The suit which was filed by lawyer for Anas, Kisi Agyabeng is seeking the court to award GHC25m to the investigative journalist on whose work the beleaguered MP launched a scathing attack in recent times.

Mr Agyapong threatened to expose Anas whom he describes as corrupt and an extortionist.

“I want to establish clearly that Anas is corrupt. If a customs officer should be jailed for 25 years for taking GHc 50, for Anas and the evidence I have about him, he has to be hanged. We have to hang Anas for the evil things he has done to Ghanaians in the course of his investigations, which he has used to amass wealth in Ghana,” Kennedy Agyapong alleged on Accra-based Adom FM.

Anas subsequently dared Mr Agyapong to provide evidence for his claims which he has since failed to do.

Speaking on the Mid Day News on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr Agyabeng said the suit was based on recent comments made by the maverick politician against the undercover journalist.

“It’s a simple suit in defamation against the MP for Asin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong… We have sued him, asking for the court to award GHC25m for the damages against him,” he explained.

My Agyabeng declined to make further comments on the matter, explaining that the case is currently in court.

He stated that Mr Agyapong, who is currently out of the country, would be served with the suit as soon as he touches down.
