As part of efforts to mitigate the plight of displaced flood victims in the Kumbungu district, the Ambariya Sunni community (an Islamic sect), in the northern region has donated relief items to victims in Dalun.
Weeks of torrential rains, ravaged some homes and properties of people in most parts of the Northern regions, with Dalun and its surrounding communities badly hit.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony in Tamale, deputy leader of the Ambariya Sunni community, Sheikh Abubakari Tanko Issahaq indicated that it was obligatory on the Ambariya community to offer support to displaced and those in need. He noted that Ambariya has been at the forefront of supporting those in need in the region, since its inception some decades ago.
The items worth 31,500 Ghana cedis included bags of used clothes, foot wears, amongst others.
Dr. Mohammed Awal, head of the Ambariya senior high school,(Arabic division) and Sheikh Tamimu Abubakari, secretary of the Ambariya sunni community both took turns to address the media.
Receiving the items on behalf of the displaced victims, the assemblyman of the Dalun electoral area, Abubakari Mohammed pledged that the items will be used for its intended purpose.
In a related development, the Ambariya Sunni community has extended a hand of support to residents of some areas in Savelugu who were affected by the floods.
Chief of Sugu-Tampia, Naa Mahama Imoro who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary communities, thanked Ambariya for the kind gesture.
Municipal NADMO coordinator for Savelugu, Imoro Alhassan who witnessed the presentation ceremony, promised to assured that the items will be fairly distributed to all beneficiary communities
